Life Skills Cooking Coach (Neurodivergent Adults) CookingCare San Francisco, CA Job Details Part-time From $35 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Disability insurance Qualifications Working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders Working with individuals with cognitive disabilities Working with adults with disabilities Adults with developmental disabilities Food preparation Working with adult populations Autism spectrum disorders support Group home experience Adult education Working with individuals with neurological conditions Full Job Description Adaptive Cooking & Independent Living Coach (Part-Time) We are seeking a patient, structured, and supportive instructor to work 1:1 with a neurodivergent, autistic adult on building kitchen confidence and independent meal preparation skills. This is not a traditional chef position. Prior experience with autistic individuals is required. We are looking for someone who understands how to teach life skills through encouragement, structure, repetition and hands-on participation while allowing the client to do the work themselves. Job will be in a group home setting, one one one with the client and his assistants. You will be working toward greater independence with everyday meal preparation. He experiences anxiety and uncertainty around cooking tasks and benefits from calm guidance, consistent routines, and supportive accountability. Sessions are focused on practical real-life kitchen skills such as: Preparing simple meals independently Using kitchen knives and appliances safely Cooking rice, pasta, chicken, and basic sides Learn to independantly prepare premade, store bought, air fryer, slow cooker meals, simple chicken meals, sandwiches, side dishes, etc Learning slow cooker, air fryer and easy meal-prep routines Following step-by-step kitchen processes Building confidence and reducing kitchen avoidance The ideal candidate: Has experience supporting autistic or neurodivergent adults Is patient, calm, and emotionally grounded Knows how to encourage independence without taking over Can provide structure while remaining supportive Understands executive functioning challenges and anxiety Is comfortable teaching basic cooking and kitchen safety Has experience in disability services, life skills coaching, DSP work, adaptive education, ABA, caregiving, occupational support, or related fields This role is about empowerment, not perfection. The goal is helping the client feel safe, capable, and confident preparing meals independently over time. We want him to prepare realistic, repeatable, well rounded meals for himself.
Position Details:
Approximately 2 hours/week, 1 day a week (day/time tbd) In-home support setting, group home Ongoing recurring role Part-time / contractor opportunity Position starts at $35/hr Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder, neurodivergent adults, supported living, or independent living programs strongly preferred.
