Job Description
Position Summary A Deli Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service at the deli counter, preparing a variety of deli and hot-line items, and ensuring the department is clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing. This role requires precision when using slicing equipment, a sharp eye for food safety, and a friendly attitude to assist customers with their selections. Key Responsibilities Welcome customers warmly, take orders accurately, answer questions about the menu, and handle cash/digital transactions efficiently using the POS system. Slice, weigh, wrap, and price deli meats and cheeses to customer specifications. Prepare hot and cold deli items, sandwiches, and party platters. Prepare and serve a variety of hot-line and grab-and-go items (sandwiches, wraps, salads, build-your-bowl, pizzas) according to established recipes and presentation standards. Maintain a clean and sanitized workspace. Clean and sanitize slicers, scales, counters, and utensils regularly throughout the shift. Adhere to all local health department regulations regarding food handling and temperature control. Ensure the deli display cases are fully stocked, beautifully organized, and properly rotated using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method. Safely operate ovens, slicers, panini presses, knives, and other kitchen equipment. Monitor product freshness, discard expired items according to store policy, and log waste accurately. Complete opening and closing duties and checklists.
Allergen Awareness:
Know deli and hot-line ingredients and common allergens, prevent cross-contact when slicing and preparing shared items, and accurately communicate allergen and ingredient information to customers. Cross-Functional Support:
Support the hot line and assist prep/production and the cafe during peak periods or as directed by the Kitchen & Production Lead. Requirements Qualifications Deli experience is preferred, but not required. Basic knowledge of computers and POS system. Basic understanding of food preparation, portion control, and food safety. Detail oriented:
strong focus on sanitation, portion control, and presentation. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be Food Handler Certified or be able to acquire one. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; bend, and be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Comfortable working in varying temperature environments (coolers, freezers, kitchens).
