About Us Café Birdie is a family owned and operated café located in downtown Edwardsville, opened March 2023. Our mission is to connect our community through delicious food and drinks. We pride ourselves on using quality products, making thoughtful food, and delivering exceptional customer service. Our menu features a wide variety of baked goods, a vibrant lunch and weekend brunch program, and an interesting selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Everything is made in-house using local and seasonal ingredients (whenever possible) sourced from growers, artisans, and farmers who share our passion for high quality food. About the Job At Café Birdie, a can-do person is someone who can multi-task and jump in wherever needed. You will work everywhere in the cafe - washing dishes, working the food line, prep, register, or barista - whatever is required to have a successful day! You are passionate about coffee, culinary items, quality ingredients, sustainability, and creating incredible guest experiences grounded in care and respect. You Will Deliver exceptional hospitality to our guests, your fellow teammates, and all of our vendors and suppliers Be cross-trained to make and serve a selection of delicious beverages, sandwiches, and salads with a variety of different preparation methods Create community in our cafe by sharing your joy and knowledge of our mission with our guests; inspire your fellow teammates to do the same Stay cool and collected during busy services Support your team by taking joy in the tasks that keep the cafe running smoothly and beautifully - these tasks may vary, but can include cleaning, clearing and washing dishes, sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning and organizing condiment stations, and taking trash out Uphold and follow all health, food safety, safety, and sanitation guidelines Promote a safe and respectful working environment You are Searching for a career in food and beverage with a dynamic, new company Passionate about coffee, food, and creating inclusive hospitality experiences Honest, reliable, and consistent - your leader and teammates can always depend on you to be punctual and to bring your A game Excited about taking on new experiences and possess a can-do attitude, love to stay busy Eligible to work in the United States and 18 years of age or older You have 1+ years of food service experience Commerecial dishwashing experience preferred Existing Illinois Food Handler's Certification or will obtain it within 30 days post-hire Strong work ethic Strong sense of urgency Positive, can-do attitude Excellent communication skills Basic math and computer skills A flexible schedule and are available to work mornings, weekends, occasional evenings, and holidays Our Café All-Around position is a dynamic one! Below we've mapped out the physical demands that are essential to the role Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. You're on your feet the majority of the day, whether you're standing behind the counter pulling shots, in the kitchen making sandwiches, washing dishes, or walking the cafe floor Ok working in a wet environment Use of hands to reach, grip, turn, and perform precision work As needed squat, bend, twist, and reach for items below waist level or above shoulders Ability to lift, push/pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. For example, you'll be handling bags of coffee beans, kombucha kegs, crates of milk, dub of dishes, and trash bins As needed climb ladders, stairs, ramps and uneven floor and/or surfaces. For example, go up and down stairs to storage areas Ability to listen and speak. You're listening and speaking with our guests to take and fill orders, and guide and create experiences. You're also communicating and coordinating with your team to ensure everyone's success!
