OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
: The Cook is responsible for meal planning and cooking meals for the residents. Maintains sanitation and follows necessary guidelines for food handling and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Certification:
Food Handler's License Experience:
Institutional or volume cooking experience.
Availability:
Sunday - Wednesday plus some scheduled coverage for PTO hours
Driver's License:
Valid in Oregon, acceptable record, and insurability under Agency's auto insurance. Knowledge of USDA standards. Knowledge of proper use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils. Knowledge of proper storage and use of food. Ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team. Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources. Ability to work in a structured, often stressful, environment and maintain a positive mental attitude. Ability to maintain a sanitary kitchen facility. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Good communication skills.
Basic computer skills:
MS Office, email, spread sheets. Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Professional appearance appropriate to the position. Commitment to Looking Glass Mission and Values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
: Develops menus and prepares nutritious, appealing meals for youth and staff (25 45 people). Develops and maintains a recipe file. Purchases food, household supplies, and hygienic items for the program within a budget. Order and pick up donated food from community food bank and other sources. Reports kitchen maintenance needs to supervisor, and follows up as appropriate. Maintains records required by the Oregon Department of Education Breakfast Program, Lunch Program, and Milk Program, including meeting nutritional requirements, meal counts, milk counts, monthly inventory and cost/clients meals assessment. Assists with supervising youth working in the kitchen. Prepares food for off-duty days. Prepares large amounts of food as necessary by freezing or drying. Completes other duties as assigned.
