Job Description

Providore Fine Foods is a one-of-a-kind grocery store on Sandy Blvd in inner NE Portland. We're a destination for food lovers and home cooks seeking unique global groceries that are crafted and sourced with care and tradition. While our local produce, meat, seafood, bread and flowers and grocery products from local, national and international food producers are delicious, what makes Providore truly special is our team of incredible employees. THE ROLE
TASKS + RESPONSIBILITIESThe Pastry Cook at Providore is a creative, curious, hard-working person, who is self-motivated yet dedicated to a teamwork mentality. You will need a deep love of breads and baked goods inspired by Italy, Spain, France and deeper into the Mediterranean diaspora and around the world. Though we are known for our legendary focaccia, our kitchen creates beautiful pastry and is interested in delving deeper into both sweet and savory baked goods. This position works under a talented Pastry chef and will be working with a small team. The following are essential tasks of this position:

You have a minimum of 1•2 years of experience working in a professional kitchen or restaurant in a baking capacityGood baking and knife skills are requiredYou are able to work independentlyBakery school is a plusYou are skilled at preparing delicious, well-crafted and visually beautiful foodYou are eager to learn, take direction well, work quickly and thoroughly, and are a great team member Responsible for following recipes and maintaining consistent cooking proceduresYou work with organizational systems such as recipe books, production logs, order boards, and safety and sanitation systemsYour work environment and equipment is always kept clean and organizedSupports other kitchen work areas to serve the overall business goalsYou must be able to stand, lift, bend, and carry heavy items for long shifts•50 pounds should be a snap for you to carry
THE NEED
REQUIREMENTS

You have availability for FT (32-40 hours per week) and can work at least one weekend dayYou have open availability during the holidays (November 15•January 1) with no pre-arranged travelGood physical health is required and the ability to perform the physical demands of the job, which requires the ability to able stand, lift, bend, and carry heavy items for long shifts•50 pounds should be a snap for you to carry

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS + PERKSThe Starting wage for this position is $17/hr, depending on experience. The position receives pooled tips on top of the base wage, on average $3•$5 an hour
