Job Description
Parks and Recreation, Juneau Pools is seeking a qualified individual to hire as a Recreation Supervisor II who will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. The Juneau Aquatics Division offers a team-oriented workplace with a shared goal of enriching the Juneau community through aquatic exercise, recreation and wellness. Juneau's pools enjoy tremendous community support, the Dimond Park Aquatic Center is the larger of the two pools, acting as a community hub for programming and aquatic use. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for an energetic and creative professional to join our management team. The successful candidate will have experience in overseeing lifeguard training programs with a focus on safety; will understand the principles of working with entry-level staff to effectively coach positive performance; and will have experience overseeing the hiring and daily management of the pool staff. Skills needed to be successful in this position include organization, the ability to be a strong leader and effectively manage multiple facility operations simultaneously.Desirable skills and experience include:
Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail Basic principles and practices of supervision and training with specific experience working with younger, inexperienced staff. Progressive experience working with and overseeing a comprehensive staff training programs. Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques used in overseeing the complex needs of an aquatic facility. In this position, you will also be responsible overseeing the daily operations of the Dimond Park Aquatic Center, including pool schedules, staff scheduling, front desk operations and monitoring pool mechanical systems and building maintenance needs.THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM

The working hours for this position fluctuate based on facility needs. A majority of the working hours will occur during regular office hours (Monday through Friday) between 8:00am- 4:30pm but evening and weekend work will be required based on facility needs at Dimond Park Aquatic Center. The Recreation Supervisor II oversees the day-to-day operations of the Dimond Park Aquatic Center, which includes four (4) permanent employees and more than 50 Part-Time Limited employees, consisting of Lifeguards, Aquatic Attendants, and support staff. The Recreation Supervisor II works with the Aquatics Manager to oversee budget monitoring for the facility and make recommendations for facility budget needs. Works with the Aquatic Program Coordinator and Aquatics Manger to schedule internal and external user groups' facility use. This position reports directly to the Aquatics Manager.Education:
High School graduation or the equivalent.Experience:
Three (3) years of administrative experience coordinating, planning and/or organizing programs and activities. One year must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity; lead/supervisory experience need not have been concurrent.Substitution:
Any combination of experience and post-secondary education that combined equals three years that includes 6 months of lead/supervisory experience. Post-secondary education will substitute based on three (3) semester or four (4) quarter hours equal one month of experience.Licenses/ Certifications:
Current First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment and for continued employment ; Lifeguard Certification; Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification within 6 months of appointment ; Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Trainer Certification within 12 months of appointment ; Water Safety Instructor within 6 months of appointment and a minimum of one year experience teaching swim lessons; A valid Driver's License at the time of appointment and for continued employmen t.Other:
Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 (9) Appointments to this position are offered conditionally, pending the results of a criminal records report (Non-FBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
