The incumbent is responsible for recognizing and eliminating conditions or behaviors that could result in injury. Thorough knowledge and enforcement of the facility procedures, rules and regulations, forms and reports is required.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times. 1. Oversee patrons at the Creekmore Park Swimming Pool to ensure safety and compliance with pool operating rules. 2. Perform lifeguarding duties and act immediately and appropriately to ensure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. 3. Provide first aid as needed and properly document all injuries and care provided. 4. Attend and participate in mandatory staff meetings and in-service training. 5. Complete records or reports as required such as injury reports; assist as directed in the Creekmore Pool office. 6. Perform various cleaning and maintenance duties as directed by the Pool Manager and Parks Administration to maintain a clean and safe facility. 7. Maintain professional behavior consistent with the expectations of the Parks & Recreation Department of the City of Fort Smith. 8. Maintain proper sun protection. 9. Regular attendance and timeliness is required.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Must have current Lifeguard Certification from the American Red Cross or other accredited agency. • Must have current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The incumbent should have good verbal and written communications skills as well as good organization skills. Problem solving and analytical ability are required to perform the duties of this position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also necessary. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds and meet the physical requirements of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification regulations.WORK ENVIRONMENT
