Full Job Description Physical Requirements:
Becoming and working as a lifeguard requires strong swimming skills, physical strength, and stamina. Lifeguards must swim long distances, perform rescues, and carry or drag individuals to safety, all of which demand upper body and core strength. They also need cardiovascular endurance to remain alert and active during long hours of monitoring in extreme heat while also maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Mental Requirements:
Being a lifeguard also requires strong mental focus, quick decision-making, and emotional resilience. They need the ability to assess situations rapidly and make critical decisions under pressure. Mental clarity is essential in emergencies, where staying calm and focused can save lives. Lifeguards must also have the emotional strength to handle stressful or traumatic situations, such as rescues or injuries, while maintaining a professional demeanor. Additionally, good communication and teamwork skills are important for coordinating with colleagues and ensuring safety.
