Surf Instructors will teach basic to intermediate surf skills, ocean safety, and beach awareness to youth participants in a supportive, trauma-informed, and encouraging way. Daily tasks include setting up and breaking down camp equipment, leading warm-ups, supervising participants in and out of the water, and maintaining a safe, positive environment at all times. Instructors will provide individualized guidance, demonstrate proper surfing techniques, assist with paddling and catching waves, and monitor ocean conditions closely. The role also involves collaborating with other staff and volunteers, participating in orientation or training, and serving as a positive role model for campers. Qualifications Strong surfing ability, with confident swimming skills and comfort in varying ocean conditions. Knowledge of ocean safety, surf etiquette, and basic first-aid practices; lifeguard certification (or willingness to obtain) is a plus. Clear, patient communication skills and the ability to give constructive, encouraging feedback. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and respect for youth and families from diverse backgrounds, including BIPOC and houseless communities. Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors for several hours a day, including standing, carrying boards, and assisting participants in the water. Prior camp or non-profit experience is preferred; familiarity with trauma-informed or youth development practices is a plus. Must meet all organizational safety requirements
