5/13/2025 Keeps the pool and surrounding area safe and appropriately responds to emergencies that may occur. Responsible for keeping various aspects of the pool area in order, including the office, equipment room and deck. Presents a positive, enthusiastic, and caring attitude to a diversified population of members and staff. Knows and exhibits the YMCA mission through programs that strive for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Demonstrates the ability to exercise mature judgment and tact, and can work well with members, staff, and volunteers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
You must have physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. You must maintain the level of physical and mental readiness required for certification. This position regularly requires the ability to stand or sit, maintaining alertness for several hours at a time. This position may require bending, leaning, and kneeling on an occasional basis. This position may also require light physical activity such as filing. Must be able to lift swimmers of various sizes and weights, following lifeguard certification guidelines, when responding to emergencies. All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationships over minors. Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and will be submitted to the Association Office human resources department prior to beginning the first day of work. Employees may be rechecked every two years.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Attend staff meetings and training as required. 2. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. 3. Create a welcoming environment by greeting members and learning their names. 4. Utilize Listen First and motivational interviewing to listen to members and participants and manage through conflict. 5. Demonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff by building and maintaining effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and staff. 6. Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness, and personal growth, specifically supporting efforts in annual giving campaign and SPLASH! program. 7. Always pay full attention to the pool and its occupants. 8. Enforce all pool rules consistently, including preventing incidents by regulating lap lanes to ensure swimmers are in the appropriate lanes and that all are welcome to swim. 9. Maintain the aquatics equipment and areas, including the office and supply areas with a high attention to cleanliness and safety. 10. Manages and provides leadership during any emergency situations to ensure proper care, notification of emergency contacts, and activation of the branch chain of command. 11. Record chemical readings, water temperature, pool inspections, accident/incident reports, participant statistics and other details as instructed by your supervisor. 12. Provides on-deck supervision of Junior Lifeguards (Lifeguard I) and new lifeguards, including volunteers and aides. 13. Arrive on time for your shift, with your uniform and rescue equipment worn and ready to use in case of an emergency. 14. Commit to working your scheduled shifts as outlined in the scheduling policy or finding subs unless otherwise directed by your supervisor. 15. Completes all required training and re-certifications in a timely manner 16. Report any facility problems or concerns to management, including rescue equipment, fitness equipment and other pool environmental issues. 17. Promote the Y's Aquatics programming and familiarize yourself with what we offer to members. 18.
