Trails Park and Recreation District helps bring recreation, wellness, and connection to residents in the eastern Centennial area. We operate and maintain several parks, trails, open spaces, and facilities all designed to create places where people can get outside, be active, and spend time together. We also offer a wide range of programs for all ages, including youth sports, summer camps, fitness classes, community events, and activities for active aging. Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, the Aquatics Specialist will directly oversee the Trails Learn to Swim Program. This person will support the Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatics Supervisor by assisting with departmental duties and daily operations. This includes but is not limited to supervising part time aquatics employees, scheduling pool events/activities, programming aquatic activities, performing routine pool maintenance, and coordinating aquatic programs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The examples of duties below are not intended to be all inclusive: Oversees group swim lesson programming. Creates instructor lesson matrices. Manages class allocations and class creation within DigiQuatics. Reviews and approves lesson plans. Coordinates Saturday programming with the Aquatics Coordinator. Ensures curriculum alignment with current SAI standards. Schedules swim instructor in-services. Assigns staff for in-services based on availability. Develops in-service agendas for Aquatics Supervisor approval. Ensures instructional consistency and program quality standards. Assists with schedule coverage during staffing shortages. Supports lifeguard in-service coverage and Head Lifeguard meeting coverage. Provides swim instructor and swim coach coverage when necessary to maintain operational continuity. Provides lifeguarding coverage when necessary to maintain operational continuity. In coordination with the Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatics Supervisor, provides professional and responsive customer service to Aquatics patrons, addressing questions, concerns, and service needs in a timely manner. Assists the Aquatics Supervisor with daily aquatic facilities operation, maintenance, and repairs. Completes other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, Pool Managers, Head Lifeguards, District staff, and the general public Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form Possess skills to maintain a safe environment, as well as performing quality work Reliable transportation or a means to making it to work shifts on time Ability to understand, comprehend, and follow all policies and procedures and verbalized and written instructions directed by management. Ability to work effectively using programming software for staff scheduling, Trails operations, programming, and payroll participation.SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS
Requires a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week, with scheduling up to 28 hours based on operational needs. Tentative schedule includes afternoons/evenings on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and daytime on Saturdays. Availability to work potential holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day), as well as early morning, daytime, evening, and weekends. Ability to contribute to the weekly/monthly Manager on Duty facility schedule.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work performed is in a busy, closed, and, at times, noisy environment where interruptions prevail. Conditions are warm, humid, and chemically treated. Ability to move about aquatics area and facility quickly; sit or stand for periods at a time, walk, reach, climb, and stoop or kneel. Ability to talk to and hear language from patrons, managers, or groups of people up to 25 yards away. Ability to lift, carry, and transport up to 50 lbs unassisted. Ability to see objects closely and at a distance. Ability to deal with moderate to high stress situations at times and maintain a positive attitude. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Swim Team experience as a participant and/or coach. Valid First Aid, AED, & CPR certification for children and adults. Swim Instructor experience in a group and/or private setting.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience managing a Learn to Swim Program. Experience managing lifeguard staff with at least one year of Head Lifeguard/Aquatics management experience. Experience teaching group and private swimming lessons. Experience coaching recreational and/or competitive swim team(s). Current Star Fish Aquatics Institute Instructor certification (or equivalent). Current Star Fish Aquatics Institute Instructor trainer certification (or equivalent). Current CPO/AFO certification.
