Lifeguard - Barco - Newton YMCA

Essential Functions:

Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.

Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.

Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.

Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.

Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.

Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.

Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.

Attends all staff meetings and training as required. Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention. Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests. Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities. Phase 1 Tread water for 2 minutesSwim 100 yards front crawl Phase 2 Swim 50 yards(2 laps) of each stroke-Front crawl with head up, sidestroke, breaststroke, breaststroke with head up, elementary backstroke kick with hands on chest.

Perform a feet first surface dive in 6-7 feet of water, then swim underwater for 15 feet

Qualifications:

Minimum age of 16. 18 or older preferred

Certifications:

CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2, First Aid certification.

Current YMCA Lifeguarding Certification.

Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Must pass Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Physical Demands:

Ability to pass lifeguard water test.

Must be able to remain alert.

Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.

Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.

Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.

Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
