Job Description

Pool Instructor (Part-Time) Parks & Recreation Department - Aquatics Division City of St. Cloud The City of St. Cloud is seeking high-energy, charismatic individuals with a passion for teaching to serve as Pool Instructors. In this role, you will lead swim lessons and aquatic programs, helping participants of all ages build confidence, develop skills, and stay safe in and around the water.
Schedule:
Varies - includes weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings, and select holidays (Aquatics Division operates 7 days a week)

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Be punctual for scheduled class start times, fully prepared to teach. Full set up and break down of equipment for all lessons, classes, and programs. Facilitate lessons on swim technique and water safety for all ages and skill levels based on the WSI and/or BSI curriculum(s). Establish a baseline lesson plan for classes and programs prior to class start. Assess progress and adjust lesson plan as needed. Maintain a positive parent/guardian interaction regarding student progress. Implement problem solving and creative thinking skills to navigate obstacles before/during classes. Captivate participants' attention for the entirety of the lesson or program. Monitor classes at all times to prevent accidents and injuries. Report any and all incidents or facility maintenance issues to management in a timely manner. Assist in emergencies as defined in the facility's Emergency Action Plan. Attend in-service training, possibly outside of normal operational hours, to maintain and improve professional skills. Must complete proper paperwork and maintain certifications for duration of employment. Perform other related tasks as assigned. Must be at least 17 years of age. Current certification as a Water Safety Instructor, Basic Water Safety Instructor, or Water Aerobics Instructor or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment is required. Must be able to pass physical interview prior to employment, as defined below: 25 yard swim freestyle, demonstrating streamline and rotary breathing. 25 yard swim breast stoke 1 minute water tread with use of hands Surface dive feet first to retrieve 10lb brick from 12.5ft pool depth The following skill demonstrations are preferred but not required: 25 yard swim backstroke 25 yard swim butterfly

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Language Ability :
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to conduct oneself in professional manner.
Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in writing, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
