Leads and maintains staff and patron safety and discipline at the assigned aquatic facility or facilities. Performs emergency water rescue techniques; administer standard first aid, CPR, AED or Oxygen when necessary; ability to acquire and maintain the required certification. Plans, directs, and implements aquatic programs and recreational activities, services, and special events. Leads or assist in supervising the work of subordinate personnel engaged in aquatics programming, safety procedures, and maintenance services by scheduling and evaluating work activities at the assigned facility. Accurately and courteously interpret and explain operational and programmatic rules, regulations and fees to guests; ability to firmly and tactfully enforce or refer enforcement to proper authorities. Ensures general safety, cleanliness, and appearance of assigned aquatic amenities including waterpark or pool areas, restrooms, showers and concession areas when able to do so without distractions from lifeguarding responsibilities. Assists in performing general pool maintenance including, but not limited to, vacuuming and brushing e pool cleaning the tile, emptying skimmer baskets, and performing minor maintenance on pool mats. Assists in performing general facilities maintenance including, but not limited to: pressure cleaning, and picking up trash and debris. Perform routine water management tests to ensure water quality at the assigned aquatics facility or facilities; makes adjustments to the quantity and type of chemicals to ensure and maintain total water quality and chemical balances. Assist in the maintenance of records and reports and assist in the coordination of the collection of revenues. Leads practice drills simulating emergency situations and aquatic staff in service training. Performs work related to this job description as required. Knowledge of lifesaving practices and procedures. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices applicable to working as a lifeguard. Knowledge of the principles, methods and content of aquatics events, pool activities, swim meets and other related programs. Skilled in swim instruction, pool lifesaving and first aid. Ability to rapidly learn rules and regulations relating to pool and aquatic facility; and to exercise tact, firmness and good judgment in enforcing such rules and regulations. Ability to prevent dangerous situations from arising, to recognize emergencies and to take effective action. Ability to perform work that is physically demanding and/or arduous and maintain high levels of physical fitness and agility, and competency. Ability to instruct individuals or groups, of all ages and ability levels, in swimming techniques, to plan an individualized swimming program in order to develop patrons' abilities over the course of an organized swim instruction program. Ability to work with special and adaptive swim instruction programs. Must be at least eighteen (16) years old or older and two (2) years of lifeguarding experience required. Possession of High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma preferred. Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess current certifications in Swim Instruction, Lifeguard instruction, First-Aid instruction, CPR (Adult, child and infant) instruction, AED and Oxygen Administration instruction.
