Job Description

Welcome, we are excited you are here. Take a peek at what our beautiful County has to offer - Indian River County This is skilled water safety work, involving the prevention of accidents and injuries, and responding with effective care and treatment to emergency situations at aquatic pool areas. Provides supervision of lifeguards and facility when supervisor is off site. Reports to the Facilities Supervisors and/or Aquatic Manager. Performs all duties as a lifeguard Responsible for the safety of the facility patrons Responsible for the supervision of the lifeguard staff Enforces all rules, policies, and regulations Responds to patron inquiries and concerns Inspects the facility, on a daily basis, and reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Facility Supervisor immediately Maintains records and reports, including incident reports Helps to plan and provide in-service training for lifeguard staff Maintains records and documents of water quality and chemical balance, and adds chemicals to water as necessary Assists with and supervises special events, swim meets, and other events Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Facility Supervisor and/or Aquatic Manager Performs other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of (2) two years of experience as a Red Cross certified lifeguard. At least (1) one year of head lifeguard or supervisory experience is preferred. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and American Red Cross lifeguard instructor certifications are preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
American Red Cross lifeguard certification American Red Cross first aid certification American Red Cross
CPR, AED, & O2
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred
Valid Driver's License Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of water rescue methods, CPR, and first aid techniques. Knowledge of park rules and regulations concerning public safety. Ability to supervise. Ability to handle frightened or injured persons in the water. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly but tactfully. Ability to remain alert over long periods of time. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Ability to operate a personal computer.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
: Employee will perform job duties primarily outdoors at an outdoor pool environment including outdoor environmental weather conditions will include (heat, cold, wind, and rain). Employee could also be exposed to noised, fumes and odors. Frequently working with wet surfaces.
