GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Shift Manager on duty, the lifeguard maintains the safety and security of the water and all patrons. Assists with the pool maintenance and helps with upkeep of the pool and daily operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certified in Life Guarding through Red Cross, or willing to obtain. Please email for information about Lifeguard classes through the Carbondale Park District. Strong communication, public relation skills, assertiveness, and confidence are key for this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform alert, preventative lifeguarding 2. Assist with pool maintenance. 3. Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of aquatic facilities 4. Assist with recreational games and activities upon request. 5. Attend weekly guard training and other staff meetings. 6. Be familiar with programs offered by the CPKD and inform patrons as needed 6. Any other duties as assigned by the Shift Manager.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. Must have a high comfort level of being in the swimming pool. 2. Must enjoy working with the public. 3. Must have the ability to work outdoors under various weather and environmental conditions. 4. Must have the physical ability to perform rescues, CPR, and lift up to 50 lbs 5. Must have the ability to swim 200 yards continuously and tread water. 6. Must be able to physically respond quickly in an emergency and stay calm in stressful situations. 7. Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. 8. May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
