OVERVIEW
The Head Guard is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the pool facility at Mission Hills Country Club. This includes managing daily pool operations, supervising lifeguard staff, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations, and providing exceptional service to club members and their guests. In the absence of the Director of Aquatics, the Head Guard will assume the responsibilities and duties of the Director of Aquatics to ensure the smooth operation and management of aquatic programs, facilities, and staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Management Oversee daily operations of the pool, including opening and closing procedures. Ensure the pool and surrounding areas are clean, organized, and well-maintained. Monitor water quality by conducting regular chemical tests and making necessary adjustments. Coordinate with maintenance staff to address any equipment or facility issues promptly. Serve as a lifeguard during practice and as needed during operational hours. Safety and Compliance Possess operational awareness on weather conditions and situations with the potential to disrupt member experience. Enforce all pool rules and safety regulations to ensure a secure environment for members and guests. Perform routine inspections of pool equipment and facilities, reporting any issues to Director of Aquatics. Respond to emergencies, including administering first aid or CPR as needed. Maintain accurate incident reports and logs. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety standards. Safety Monitoring Actively supervise the pool area to ensure the safety of all swimmers. Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including water rescues and first aid situations. Staff Supervision Work with Director of Aquatics, lifeguards, pool staff and management to ensure smooth operations. Assist in the recruitment, training, scheduling and supervision of pool staff. Provide regular, ongoing feedback to lifeguards. Ensure lifeguards adhere to safety protocols and maintain a high level of vigilance. Member and Guest Services Provide a welcoming and professional atmosphere for all members and guests. Address member concerns or complaints promptly and courteously. Collaborate with department leaders to develop and promote poolside events and activities.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Current Lifeguard Certification (Red Cross or equivalent). CPR/AED Certification (Red Cross or equivalent). High school diploma or equivalent; higher education preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years as a lifeguard or pool manager. Previous supervisory experience is highly desirable.
COMPETENCIES
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong communication skills both verbal and written. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Proficient in water chemistry and pool maintenance techniques. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, with prolonged sun exposure.
