Must be 21 years or older Are you an experienced lifeguard ready to step into a leadership role? Looking for an opportunity to build supervisory experience while helping create a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for the community? Join the YMCA team as a Waterfront Supervisor at Camp Cedar Mill, supporting Community Open Swim hours. This role is responsible for leading waterfront operations during evening and weekend community swim times, ensuring a safe, well-managed, and enjoyable experience for members, families, and guests. What You'll Do Supervise and support lifeguard staff during Community Open Swim hours, modeling safety and professionalism at all times Ensure swimmer safety by enforcing YMCA policies, procedures, and emergency action plans Provide active lifeguard coverage while offering on-deck leadership and supervision Assist with scheduling coverage for evening and weekend shifts Oversee daily waterfront operations to maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment Ensure compliance with YMCA standards, Board of Health regulations, and safety guidelines Complete incident documentation accurately and promptly Partner with YMCA leadership to foster a positive, safety-focused waterfront culture What You Bring Previous lifeguarding experience required Current lifeguard certification (or ability to obtain prior to start) Strong leadership skills and interest in supervision Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations Excellent communication and organizational skills Confidence supporting staff and reinforcing safety expectations Commitment to the YMCA mission and community-focused programming Why Work at the YMCA? Qualifications
Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Current certifications required:
Lifeguard, Pro CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration (must maintain and renew all certifications as required). Minimum of 3 years of lifeguarding experience preferred. At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Ability to respond to an emergency within 10 seconds in accordance with YMCA protocols. Must be able to demonstrate all lifeguard skills and continuing care skills on demand. Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently while modeling professionalism and best practices for staff.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Must be prepared to work in inclement weather and perform all lifeguard and continuing care skills regardless of environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, glare, and precipitation. Requires high levels of concentration and attention to detail. Ability to quickly recognize and respond to emergency situations. Must be able to see, hear, and identify aquatic emergencies. Ability to lift, support, and remove individuals from the water as necessary.
