Job Description

JOB The City of Bozeman Swim Department is now accepting applications for full-time Lifeguard & Swim Instructors who are confident, detail oriented, quick thinkers, and team oriented to perform critical lifeguarding duties and swim instruction. They will provide direction to the Lifeguard Instructor I and II's, ensure patron safety at the indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, provide important aquatics program instruction, and assist in the maintenance, upkeep, and custodial duties of the pool facilities, test chemicals and respond to protocol to help maintain water balance, and manages the facilities in the absence of upper management. 40 hours/week - Monday through Friday from 12:30pm - 9:30pm.
Part-Time:
15 hours per week schedule preferred, but alternative schedules will be considered over 8 hours per week. Current operations are Monday - Friday with plans to expand to weekends which may include Saturday and/or Sunday shifts of 7:30am - 4:30pm.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)Performs life-saving and guarding duties, including assisting patrons in life threatening situations, enforcing pool rules and regulations for the efficient and safe operation of the aquatic facilities, providing active accident prevention, and monitoring patrons in the water, and completing rescue accident and incident reports.

Provides customer service, including answering questions, referring customers to other agencies or organizations when necessary, accepting payment for passes, parties, lessons, and programs, answering phones and directing calls, and registering patrons for programs.

Provides aquatics programs instruction to patrons, including composing lesson plans, demonstrating proper stroke techniques and awareness, ensuring safety of children and adults by watching for potential hazards and dangerous situations, and teaching water safety and pool rules.

Maintains a clean and safe swimming facility, including cleaning locker rooms, lobby area, pool deck, and restrooms, and ensuring pool, equipment room, and pool deck are clear of potentially dangerous objects or situations.

Opens and closes facilities.

Tests and monitors chemical balance in water and changes to water chemistry as directed.

Performs cashier functions, including taking payments and reconciling funds received with transaction register.

Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.

Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.

Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.

Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.

Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.

Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Must be at least 16 years old, and6 months experience in aquatics or lifeguarding is required, andMust successfully complete two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations including a swim-tread-swim sequence and a timed surface dive rescue event.

Must possess and maintain the following: Red Cross Lifeguarding with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification (expired certification acceptable at hire).Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification within six months of employment in the position.
