Job Description

Responsible for the safety/supervision of the public and members of the City's swimming pools located at the Woodmen Community Center, Emma Webb Center or Holloway Community Center. Location will be assigned at time of hire. Reports to the Senior Lifeguard and/or Pool Manager. ( $9hr Shallow Water ONLY Certification $10hr Deep Water Certification) The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies and safety issues. Assists with groups using the facility and performs basic cleaning duties. The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Monitor pool area and sitting area to ensure safety of all participants. Performs rescue operations as needed. Ensures pools and pool areas are clean and orderly. Provides instruction to participants of rules and regulations of the facility. Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with each facility. Performs related tasks as required. Demonstrates good judgment and sound decision making skills in emergency situations. Must possess good communication skills with public. Must be available holidays and weekends on a flexible schedule. The ability to successfully complete a background check including but not limited to criminal history search is required. Must possess current Lifeguard certification and current CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification. Must meet minimum age requirement of 15 years of age. This position is seasona and subject to the maximum 1,000 hour rule per calendar year. This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. recreation center; pool area; visitor center; day trip facilities).
