Course fee is reimbursable upon successful completion of employment season. Must be 15 years old by course completion date. Pre-requisites for the course vary by class but generally include: Non-stop 150-300-yard swim (freestyle or breast stroke) 10-pound brick retrieval from 11.5 feet of water Tread water for 2 minutes with legs only Ability to exit the water without the use of a ladder or steps Contact Jessie at Public Works if you have questions regarding the classes or need help registering: 847-0958 or jfain@storeycounty.org. Under general direction of the Public Works Director or his/her designee, supervises lower level lifeguard staff, enforces water safety regulations, and guards swimmers at swimming facility, promoting patron health, enjoyment and safety. This is the supervisory level position in the Lifeguard series. The Lifeguard Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and direction of lower level lifeguard staff and is able to perform the full range of essential functions of the job. Current certifications in Lifeguard Training, First-Aid Basics, CPR for Professional Rescuer, and American Red Cross Community CPR. Must possess sufficient knowledge of English grammar, vocabulary and spelling to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in written form. Employment is conditional upon the candidate's successful completion of Storey County's background check. Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. The duties listed below are examples of the work typically performed by an employee in this position. Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. An employee may not be assigned all duties listed and may be assigned duties which are not listed below. Identifies the need for, oversees, and equips all special aquatic events. Promotes assigned programs to ensure maximum participation using acceptable advertising and marketing techniques. Implements, monitors, staffs, and supervises assigned programs to ensure the success of the programs and the safety and enjoyment of those participating. Supervises lower-level lifeguard staff, including scheduling, performance management, and, if necessary, discipline. Performs lifeguard duties. Participates in the pool risk management and safety program by regular inspection and maintenance of activity site and scheduled emergency drills. Monitors and supervises the swimming pool, pool area, locker rooms and hallways. Enforces rules and regulations pertaining to pool operation and safety and supervises pool areas when in use; fosters accident prevention. Administers First-Aid and/or CPR as needed; performs water rescue functions. Maintains standards of facility sanitation, assisting with cleaning and general maintenance of the facility. Attends meetings and training sessions as required. Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment; resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Maintains proper physical fitness, mental alertness, and readiness to meet emergencies. Performs related duties as required.
