POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Y Aquatic Safety Assistant (YASA) slide Aid will help prevent and recognize aquatic risks. The slide aide will monitor safety on the indoor and outdoor aquatic slides, handing out swim bands to participants, checking the deck for safety hazards, cleaning throughout the pool areas, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Assist and alert a lifeguard in the emergency response to an accident or injury. 2. Serve the aquatics department by being a slide aide (monitoring safety on the indoor and outdoor aquatic slides). 3. Assist in handing out swim bands to participants. 4. Assist in checking the deck for safety hazards. 5. Maintain equipment 6. Clean and squeegee deck as needed in aquatics area. 7. Follow YMCA policies and procedures. 8. Participate in continuing education training specific to individual goals and branch objectives. 9. Attend all staff meetings and YMCA training sessions as required by supervisor. 10. Maintain all certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum age is 15 yrs. old. 2.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen required, or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire. 3. Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire. 4. Ability to pass swim test including: o Phase 1 Tread water for 2 minutes Swim 100 yards-front crawl o Phase 2 Start at shallow end Sprint 60 feet and then perform an arm-over-arm surface dive in 4-6 ft of water Pick up object (dive ring) from the bottom of pool, surface, tread water for at least 1 minute with legs only, and replace the object back to the bottom of the pool where it was found Swim the remaining length of the pool and hoist self out of the water Immediately begin compressions on an adult manikin for 1 minute or 100 compressions; then, stand and listen to directions from instructor 5. Have the strength and maturity to assist in backboarding procedures 6. Strong customer service skills and the ability to promote programs and services. 7. Enthusiastic and supportive attitude. The YASA employee will be provided Cause-Driven Leadership skills in communication, decision making, and emotional maturity. The YASA employee will receive YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant certification, as well as, Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certification.
