Lifeguard Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

DEFINITION

The duties of a lifeguard are to help prevent accidents and enforce all pool rules and regulations in and out of the water.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives supervision from supervisory and management staff.

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS

 - Essential and marginal responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

1. Must have a current Lifeguard Training Certificate, First Aid, Adult/Infant CPR 2. Must assure the maximum safety for patron. 3. Must present yourself in a professional manner and enjoy working with the public. 4. Help maintain pool facility & general janitorial duties. 5. 16 years of age or older. 6. Must have acceptable attendance and well with people. 7. Any specific requirements stated in the "offer of employment letter".

Marginal Functions:

Report to pool managers for instructions. Assisting managers with daily opening and closing of pool.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Lifeguard duties and swimming pool management.

Required Skills and Competencies:

Enforce all pool rules and regulations. Must enjoy working with public. Assist pool managers in seasonal opening & closing of pool. Present yourself in a professional manner.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Experience:

Not required.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE

Must have a current certificate in the following: Lifeguard Training Certificate, First Aid, and Adult/Infant CPR at the date of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:

Swimming pool environment. Subject to noise, water, heat, sun and chlorine.

Physical Conditions:

Must maintain physical condition necessary for proper licensing, standing, sitting, walking, stooping and kneeling. Must be able to lift supplies up to seventy-five pounds.
