Job Description Summary:

The Lifeguard will be responsible for maintaining a safe environment and being ready to respond in the case of emergencies, prevent drownings and respond with appropriate care when needed. The lifeguard will also maintain a clean pool area and notify support staff of any maintenance concerns.

Required Qualifications:

Experience in a customer service setting where excellent communication skills were required. Proven flexibility and adaptability in work situations. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.

Conditions of Employment:

The position is designed to supplement the student workforce over holiday breaks, summer sessions, and between semesters. Early mornings and late night shifts are possible. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, 1400 hours, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve (12) month period beginning May 1 each year. Pooled hourly position. This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor. This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.

No Salary is $16.25 per hour

Job Duties:

Percentage Of Time 85%: Maintain a safe environment during aquatics programming and facilitate rule enforcement. Percentage Of Time 10%: Maintain clean pool environment and notify supervisor of maintenance concerns. Percentage Of Time 5%: Attend monthly lifeguard staff trainings and participate in all skills practices.
