Maintain safety in the aquatic area and deliver excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. Assist aquatic director, over see management of lifeguards, promote programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization in the aquatics office, guard room and aquatic area.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Promote and incorporate the YMCA core values and character development model in to all program activities. 2. Assist the Aquatics Director in creating a safe work environment for staff and members. 3. Build effective authentic relationships with staff, members, and program participants. 4. Assists in staff recruitment and development. Works with staff to develop growth opportunities and increase capacity within association. 5. Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refer members to programs that reflect their interest. 6. Follow and enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. 7. Ensure guards follow and enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. 8. Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention. 9. Handles and resolves membership concerns in a timely manner and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues. 10. Consistently advertising and teaching group and private lessons. 11. Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services. 12. All other necessary duties assigned to contribute to the overall success of the Danville FamilyYMCA. 13.
Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. 14. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the "safe-in-six" model. Completes related reports as required. 15. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. 16. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code and The Danville FamilyYMCA. 17.
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. 18. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. 19. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action. 20. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training and knows how to run in-service training in the absence of the director. 21. Follows the lifeguard code of conduct and ensures all lifeguards do the same. 22. Ensure on duty guards are providing uninterrupted active surveillance. 23. Clean and maintain a professional aquatics area. 24. Coordinate with Swim Lesson/Swim Team Coordinator to ensure that all lessons are properly covered. 25. Coordinate with aquatic director to ensure programs are marketed adequately and assists in distribution of program information. 26. Make certain all parties are covered by yourself or birthday party coordinator. 27. Be on site to assist with all major Y functions, swim meets, lessons, parties, and guard no shows. 28. Ensure lessons are conducted to the highest and up to date standards. 29. Assist in fund raising activities and special events.ASSISTS AQUATICS DIRECTOR WITH THE FOLLOWING DUTIES
A. Supervising employees in assigned accountabilities, monitor pool operation and scheduling and verifying time cards against actual hours worked. B. Identify training needs and initiate development activities of supervisees. Recommend effective personnel management actions to supervisor (i.e. employee counseling process). C. Assist in assuring that new employees complete orientation and training according to established guidelines and provide on the job training as required by supervisees. D. Assist in ensuring duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of all direct reports are defined and understood. Ensure that the individual understands the standards for acceptable performance. E. Notify supervisor of potential job openings, follow hiring and interview process. Ensure supervisor approves all staff. F. Assist in keeping employees informed as to association events, plans and progress on organizational goals. G. Assists in checking and maintaining all AEDs and first aid kits in The Danville FamilyYMCA. SERVICE SKILLS
1. Follow the staff dress code for position (YMCA lifeguard shirt and shorts or bathing suit and shorts, water shoes/crocs/slides). 2. Greet members and guests. 3. Show interest in their concerns. 4. Know members' names and use them in their presence. 5. Ask "satisfaction questions" about program and service. 6. Listen to suggestions and respond promptly. 7. Address of complaints/concerns immediately. 8. Carry out other duties as assigned. 9. Be alert to safety factors and potential hazards. 10. Always look for ways to improve performance. 11. Emphasize fun, make the Y a happy place with positive relationships. 12. Use the 15, 10, 5 rule. Eye contact, smile, engage.RELATIONSHIP SKILLS

1. Current Red Cross or YMCA lifeguard withFA/CPR/AED
certification. 2. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with Red Cross or YMCA standards. 3. Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness. 4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community 5. Previous customer service, sales or related experience. 6. Minimum of 2 year's experience in programming and experience in developing aquatic programs is preferred. 7. Basic knowledge of computers. 8. Smileability. 9. Ability to instruct class and lifeguard when other staff is not available. 10. Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.Physical Demands:
