Housekeeper Job Status:
Non-Exempt Reports to: Housekeeping Manager Organization Sacred Heart Jesuit Center (SHJC), located in the hills of Los Gatos in the Santa Clara Valley, serves as a retirement community for the California Jesuits (a religious order of men within the Catholic Church). SHJC is a 92-bed facility that employs approximately 75 staff members (part-time and full-time) including nursing, facilities, dietary services, landscaping, and office staff. Job Summary A housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the facility. This includes changing linens, cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, emptying trash cans, and dusting furniture. They also handle occasional tasks such as sanitizing rooms and cleaning furnishings. Duties and Responsibilities Ability to follow specific directions and schedules. Proper handling of potentially dangerous cleaning chemicals. Thoroughness in work and attention to detail. Coordination skills to perform numerous duties within a specific time period. Familiarity with cleaning and disinfecting materials. Experience with various cleaning tools, like vacuum cleaners and washing machines. Physical endurance as housekeepers work on their feet most of the day. Changing linens on residents' beds. Cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, washing mirrors, and replenishing washroom supplies. Floor cleaning, which includes sweeping and mopping, as well as occasional buffing. Emptying trash cans and cleaning air vents. Cleaning furnishings and horizontal surfaces to remove dust and dirt. Reporting potential maintenance issues or resident problems to management. Sanitizing the room and preparing it for a new resident when residents pass away or move out of their rooms. Cleaning and disinfecting furnishings within the facility. Cleaning human wastes and bodily fluids for residents who are sick or incontinent. Removing curtains or blinds for cleaning and then rehanging them. Dusting, mopping, vacuuming community member rooms and bathrooms. Preparing and changing linens. Cleaning lounge areas, library, hallways, and office areas. Sorting and folding laundry. Helping maintain a pleasant and cheerful, home-like environment. Attending mandatory facility training. Performing other duties as assigned.
Competencies and Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent. Interest in meeting the sanitary needs of the community members and the facility. Physical and emotional capacity, education, and experience to respond to the needs of the community member. Physical demands such as standing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing stairs, hearing, seeing kneeling, and lifting. Ability to effectively communicate with confidence, clarity, precision, and professionalism. Must be at least 18 years of age. Familiarity with the Society of Jesus and the Catholic Church, and ability to work with Jesuit priests, brothers, and all levels of management and employees a plus. Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs. Compassion, patience, and respect for seniors. Maintain confidentiality of information related to residents and facility operations. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Flexibility and availability to work shifts, weekends, and holidays. Valid driver's license. Background check required.
