Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Pre-Op / Post-Op CNA / Housekeeping Assistant provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse in the surgical services department while also maintaining a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment. This role supports patient flow, assists with department efficiency, performs environmental cleaning duties, and contributes to patient comfort and safety throughout the perioperative process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patient Care Duties Assist with admission, preparation, transfer, and discharge of pre-operative and post-operative patients. Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, and other basic patient data as directed. Assist patients with dressing, toileting, ambulation, and positioning. Prepare patient rooms and bays for admissions and recoveries. Transport patients to and from surgical areas as needed. Assist nursing staff with patient observation and promptly report changes in condition. Maintain patient comfort by providing blankets, pillows, fluids as directed, and other basic care needs. Assist with stocking patient care supplies and equipment. Post-Procedure Support Assist with discharge preparation, including helping patients dress and gather belongings. Escort discharged patients to vehicles when appropriate. Reinforce discharge instructions as directed by nursing staff.
Housekeeping / Environmental
Duties Clean and prepare patient care areas between patients. Change linens and remove soiled materials promptly. Clean stretchers, recliners, beds, and patient care equipment according to infection prevention standards. Disinfect high-touch surfaces and maintain cleanliness throughout the department. Remove trash and linen bags and replace liners as needed. Assist with turnover of patient care areas to maintain efficient patient flow. Support department cleanliness throughout the day and perform housekeeping duties as needed.
Clerical / Department
Support Stock supplies in patient rooms, storage areas, and procedure rooms. Monitor supply levels and notify staff when items require replenishment. Assist with answering phones and relaying messages as needed. Support efficient patient throughput within the department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current CNA certification in the State of Illinois Current BLS certification preferred Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
