Job Description
The Maintenance & Housekeeping Technician is responsible for ensuring that all guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces are clean, safe, fully functional, and maintained to company standards. This role combines hands-on housekeeping responsibilities with routing maintenance, preventive care, and minor repair work to support overall property operations and guest satisfaction. Duties/Responsibilities Housekeeping Operations Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms and other work areas so that health standards are met Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers Empty wastebaskets, empty and clean ashtrays, and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas Carry linens, towels, toilet items, and cleaning supplies, using wheeled carts Sweep, scrub, wax, and/or polish floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machines Dust and polish furniture and equipment Keep storage areas and carts wellstocked, clean, and tidy Polish silver accessories and metalwork such as fixtures and fittings Remove debris from driveways, garages, and swimming pool areas Replace light bulbs Replenish supplies such as drinking glasses, linens, writing supplies, and bathroom items Sort, count, and mark clean linens, and store them in linen closets Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork, waxing and polishing as necessary Request repair services and wait for repair workers to arrive Disinfect equipment and supplies, using germicides or steamoperated sterilizers Hang draperies and dust window blinds Move and arrange furniture and turn mattresses Observe precautions required to protect hotel and guest property and report damage, theft, and found articles to supervisors Prepare rooms for meetings and arrange decorations, media equipment and furniture for social or business functions Assist with laundry operations as needed Observe and report damage, safety hazards, or missing items. Maintenance & Engineering Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests and service calls Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building systems Conduct preventive maintenance on guest rooms, equipment, and mechanical systems Perform minor repairs including painting, drywall, carpentry, fixture replacement, and light bulb changes Inspect rooms and facilities to proactively identify maintenance needs Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance inventory Assist with upkeep of exterior areas including walkways, driveways, and landscaping Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of tools, chemicals, and Lockout/Tagout protocols Communicate daily maintenance activities and issues to management Guest Services Interact with guests in a professional, courteous, and responsive manner Address guest concerns efficiently, escalating when necessary Collaborate across departments to ensure rooms are turned over efficiently and maintained properly Maintain a clean, professional appearance and uphold company standards To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays Continuously grow and improve through training and development Education and Experience High school diploma Previous experience in housekeeping, maintenance, or hospitality preferred Working knowledge of basic maintenance disciplines (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry) Special Skills Able to maintain complete confidentiality Strong customer service and communication skills Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to multitask and manage multiple assignments simultaneously Possess knowledge of all aspects of facility Demonstrate interest in and education on all products and services Participate in team and company meetings Behavioral Skills Ability to establish strong interpersonal relationships with guests Ability to establish strong interpersonal relationships with team members Ability to work independently and as part of a team Integrity and a selfimposed high degree of character Physical Demands The Maintenance & Housekeeping Technician must be able to physically perform the following duties for prolonged periods of time: Unassisted lifting up to 50 pounds Bending Walking Kneeling Stretching Able to work on step ladders or extension ladders up to 30 feet Able to work in confined spaces, indoors and outdoors in all climates, and unclean environments with fumes, dust and poor ventilation while adhering to company safety requirements and programs Able to perform all duties in a safe manner at all times.
