Description:
Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe cafeteria environment for students and staff. The primary duties focus on cleaning before, during, and after breakfast and lunch periods, including sanitizing tables, sweeping and mopping floors, and managing waste disposal. This role is essential in promoting a hygienic, organized space that supports a positive dining experience for students.
Essential Functions:
Cafeteria Cleaning:
Perform thorough cleaning of cafeteria spaces before, during, and after breakfast and lunch periods, including: Sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing floors. Wiping down and disinfecting tables, chairs, and surrounding surfaces. Spot-mopping during meal periods as necessary. Ensuring proper disposal of food waste and managing waste receptacles.
Maintenance of Supplies and Equipment:
Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, and hand sanitizers in cafeteria areas as needed. Maintain custodial supplies and equipment clean and organized, notifying the supervisor of any needs for restocking. Use, measure, and label cleaning chemicals accurately and safely, adhering to safety guidelines.
Inspection and Reporting:
Regularly check the cafeteria area to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met, promptly reporting any maintenance issues, such as damaged furniture or broken fixtures, to the supervisor.
Safety and Interpersonal Interaction:
Interact in a positive manner with students, staff, and faculty, promoting good public relations through professionalism and a courteous approach. Follow established safety practices and procedures, ensuring a secure environment for students and staff.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Role Modeling:
Serve as a role model for students by promoting responsible behaviors, cleanliness, and respect for shared spaces.
Additional Custodial Support:
When time allows, provide custodial support in adjacent areas if requested, maintaining flexibility in assignments.
Communication:
Respond effectively to routine questions and requests related to cafeteria cleanliness and custodial support.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. One to two years of related experience preferred. Knowledge of safety procedures, ability to follow verbal and written instructions and effective organizational skills.
Equipment Operated:
Wet/dry mop, brooms, vacuum, and floor scrubbers to maintain the cafeteria area. Ability to safely operate custodial equipment for floor care, waste disposal, and sanitizing.
Additional Working Conditions:
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive hand motions (e.g., wiping, mopping) throughout each meal period and occasionally lifting upto 65 pounds and pushing or pulling up to 300 pounds (e.g., waste receptacles on wheels). Exposure to

Periodic use of cleaning chemicals; proper handling and usage training will be provided.
