Job Description

Nature of Work This is labor intensive work maintaining the cleanliness of the LeConte Event Center, common Areas, grounds, and offices. Activities associated with the job include in daily cleaning activities, removing trash and other debris, cleaning and stocking bathrooms, cleaning common areas, and hallways. Additional activities include maintaining an adequate supply of cleaning supplies and materials, cleaning windows and doors, vacuuming carpeted areas, dusting surfaces and performing minor maintenance duties when required. The work is physically demanding due to excessive walking, bending and lifting. Job duties require experience working with cleaning machinery, supplies and materials along with the knowledge of acceptable cleaning and sanitation practices, ability to interact successfully with co-workers and the public and the ability to consistently adhere to established policies, procedures, and schedules. Job performance is evaluated by the Services Logistics Manager in consultation with the General Manager through review of the general cleanliness and overall appearance of facilities, ability to interact to established policies, procedures and schedules. This work will require flexible work schedules that require alternating both early start times and late night ending shifts. Illustrative Examples of Work Ø Sweeps, vacuums, and/or mops exhibit spaces, meeting rooms, bathrooms, hallways, restrooms and common areas. Ø Empties trash cans and remove debris from common areas and grounds. Ø Dusts and cleans counter tops, window sills, tables, and other surfaces. Ø Cleans up spills. Ø Cleans and sanitizes bathroom sinks, commodes, and water fountain. Ø Orders and inventories cleaning equipment and supplies and stocks bathrooms and closets with needed supplies, equipment and materials. Ø Moves all furniture and cleans both carpet and tile floors. Ø Cleans windows, mirrors, and walls. Ø Interacts as a team leader with co-workers, vendors, clientele and the public to provide general assistance. Ø Assists with supervising the activities of the maintenance staff to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion of assignments. Ø Prepares LeConte Center and cleans up afterwards. Ø Follows and implements set up instructions and requirements per event. Ø Breaks down furnishings and equipment after event conclude. Ø Stacks /unstacks and places seating chairs for event floor and storage. Ø Performs other routine maintenance activities when required. Ø Performs related work as required. Necessary Requirements of Work Ø Graduation from an accredited high school or a GED; Experience working with cleaning and supplies; knowledge of acceptable cleaning and sanitation practices and methods including the use of cleaning products and materials; experience working with the public; sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following critical knowledge, abilities and skills: Ø Knowledge of safety procedures involved with cleaning supplies and precautions pertaining to the proper handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals (includes MSDS specifications). Ø Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, supplies and materials used in an institutional and/or commercial setting. Ø Knowledge of floor maintenance practices and methods including the stripping and waxing of various types of floor surfaces including wood, linoleum tile and marble. Ø Some knowledge of routine maintenance and cleaning procedures and practices involving public facilities. Ø Ability to plan and organize daily activities to complete established work assignments and assist other staff. Ø Ability to react to emergency or unexpected events in a prompt and responsive manner. Ø Ability to determine the overall cleanliness and sanitation of public facilities and address any identified deficiencies. Ø Ability to consistently adhere to established operating policies, procedures and schedules. Ø Ability to interact successfully with co-workers, vendors and the public. Ø Skill in the operation of floor maintenance equipment including dust mops, vacuum cleaners and buffers. Physical Requirements Ø This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects Ø Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping Ø Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word Ø Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels Ø Visual acuity is required for operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities Ø The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils.
