Housekeeping & Laundry AideJob Summary The Housekeeping & Laundry Aide is responsible for performing day-to-day housekeeping and laundry services in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. Under the direction of the Administrator, Director of Housekeeping, and/or Director of Laundry Services, this position ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable manner for residents, staff, and visitors. Essential Job Functions Administrative Functions Ensure all housekeeping and laundry schedules are followed as closely as practical. Report all accidents or incidents to the supervisor immediately, no matter how minor. Coordinate daily housekeeping and laundry services with nursing staff when working in resident living or recreational areas. Attend departmental and staff meetings as required. Participate in continuing education, in-service training, OSHA, CDC, TB, and bloodborne pathogen training. Housekeeping Services Perform daily housekeeping duties as assigned, following established procedures. Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, stairways, elevators, and common areas. Empty and sanitize ashtrays using approved containers. Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, vents, heating/cooling units, and equipment. Clean and disinfect floors, including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and shampooing carpets. Clean windows, mirrors, walls, ceilings, and entryways. Remove and properly dispose of trash and waste; reline trash receptacles. Perform isolation and terminal cleaning in accordance with infection control standards. Discard infectious waste using approved procedures and containers. Clean vacant rooms as assigned. Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure equipment and supplies are properly stored. Laundry Services Perform daily laundry operations for the entire facility in accordance with established procedures. Collect, sort, weigh, count, and wash soiled linens, garments, and personal laundry. Separate items requiring special stain treatment or handling. Load, unload, and operate washers, dryers, and related equipment safely. Fold, stack, hang, iron, and distribute clean laundry to residents and departments. Transport laundry using carts that may exceed 30 pounds. Ensure clean laundry distribution during emergency conditions as directed. Clean and maintain laundry equipment, floors, walls, lint traps, and work areas. Equipment and Supply Functions Maintain adequate supplies of housekeeping and laundry materials. Report supply needs, burned-out lights, hazardous conditions, and equipment malfunctions promptly. Clean and properly store carts, tools, and equipment at the end of each shift. Assist with lifting heavy equipment or supplies as needed. Resident Rights Maintain strict confidentiality of resident information. Knock before entering resident rooms. Respect resident privacy, dignity, and property at all times. Inform residents when personal belongings must be moved for cleaning. Report complaints of missing property to a supervisor. Safety and Sanitation Follow fire safety, infection control, and universal precautions policies. Use proper chemical handling procedures, labels, andMSDS/SDS
guidelines. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow hand hygiene and waste disposal procedures. Report unsafe conditions immediately. Working Conditions Works in all areas of the facility. Subject to frequent interruptions. Regular interaction with residents, families, staff, and visitors, including emotionally upset or hostile individuals. Exposure to infectious waste, hazardous chemicals, dust, odors, and moving machinery. May work evenings, weekends, holidays, alternate shifts, or emergency call-back situations. Physical Demands (Summary) Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift (up to 8 hours). Frequent pushing and pulling of housekeeping and laundry carts. Frequent bending, reaching, gripping, kneeling, and crouching.Ability to lift:
Up to 20-25 pounds regularly Occasional heavier lifting of wet laundry or equipment (with assistance for loads exceeding 50 pounds) Ability to operate around moving mechanical parts (washers, dryers, buffers, vacuums). Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation) Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English. Ability to cope with physical, mental, and emotional demands of the position. Adequate vision and hearing to perform essential functions safely. Must meet general health requirements, including physical examination. May assist in resident evacuation during emergencies. Qualifications & Experience No prior experience required. On-the-job training provided. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and accept constructive feedback. Ability to work tactfully and cooperatively with residents, families, staff, and the public. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.Job Types:
