Jun 10, 2026 Be an early applicant Required Years of Experience 2 years Job Details Ox & Olive, a new modern American steakhouse and martini bar by Hive Hospitality, is seeking passionate and experienced Captains to join our team in Washington, D.C.. Our concept blends sophistication with a sense of play, delivering reimagined American classics and aiming to provide the most genuine and memorable guest experience in D.C. while striving for a Michelin Star. The Captain is the heart of the guest experience, responsible for transforming technical service (the craft) into genuine, memorable hospitality (the art) Service & Hospitality Excellence Own and manage the complete guest experience, ensuring consistent, exceptional service from arrival to departure. Practice anticipatory hospitality by observing and acting on opportunities to create a personal, magical, and memorable moment for the guest, recognizing what they need before they ask. Welcome guests and adhere to the strict Steps of Service, including a warm greeting within 30-60 seconds, presenting the Welcoming Martini, and confirming water preference. Ensure every guest is treated as a VIP, utilizing names when possible, and making special accommodations. Product Knowledge & Salesmanship Maintain expert knowledge of the food menu, including featured items, modifications, and alternatives for 86'd items. Deliver the Ox & Olive "Spiel" with genuine sincerity, establishing guest trust, and confidently communicating menu details and pricing, particularly for large-format selections. Act as the "Beef Captain," providing an engaging tableside presentation and story of the family-style steaks and cuts. Serve as an expert for the full beverage program—including wine, spirits, and cocktails—and collaborate with the Sommelier to make suggestive pairings. Operational Duties & Teamwork Maintain a focused sense of urgency, practicing efficiency to minimize steps and maximize available time. Uphold the restaurant's visual standards by ensuring the dining room, including temperature, lighting, music, and table settings, is immaculate at all times. Adhere to a true team approach, actively supporting colleagues and working seamlessly to uplift the collective. Comply with all alcohol service policies, including checking valid identification and notifying management immediately if a guest appears overly intoxicated.
