This role is ideal for an experienced driver or safety professional who is passionate about training, accountability, and building a strong safety culture. Responsibilities Lead small-group driver trainings (5 drivers or fewer) approximately 4 times per month (road evaluations, safety procedures, company protocols, etc). Provide monthly safety training sessions (virtual or in-person) for all drivers New driver onboarding and training, including: conducting behind-the-wheel evaluations, verifying driving competency and safety readiness and training on company protocols, routes and expectations Deliver post-incident retraining for drivers involved in accidents or safety concerns Develop and reinforce defensive driving practices and risk-reduction strategies Identifying training needs based on: driver performance, safety reports, operational trends, etc. Collaborate with management to improve overall driver safety standards and consistency Maintain training documentation and attendance records Support ongoing coaching and performance feedback for drivers as needed Evaluate driver performance through observations, assessments, and practical driving exercises, providing constructive feedback for continuous improvement. Develop training materials, manuals, and visual aids that clearly communicate safety protocols and operational standards. Stay current with industry regulations, including requirements related to air brake systems, tanker endorsements, commercial driving licenses, and tractor-trailer operations. Collaborate with transportation management to identify training needs and tailor programs accordingly. Maintain detailed records of training sessions, driver progress, certifications earned, and compliance documentation. Qualifications Minimum 5+ years of school bus or commercial driving experience Illinois School Bus Driver Permit (preferred) Safety or training certification (Illinois or national) Previous experience in driver training, safety, or supervision Experience conducting behind-the-wheel evaluations Strong knowledge of safe driving practices and DOT regulations Ability to train, coach, and hold drivers accountable Strong communication and leadership skills Reliable, organized, and professional
