Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per WCS Performance and Assessment Procedures. Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1. Purpose of thePosition:
To provide student and route support to the school bus driver.Minimum Requirements:
The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Meets applicable requirements set forth in Indiana Code 20-27 Chapter 8. Access to personal transportation for travel to and from the bus and/or school. Models consistent attendance and punctuality as routes and or trips are driven per schedule fixed by the transportation department. Essential Functions of thePosition:
The following functions have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position. Assist the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus. Assist special needs students while getting on and off the bus and during the trip. Help maintain an overall environment of safety. Help the driver maintain written records. Operate school bus lift equipment and wheelchair securements. Assists driver and students in the event of an emergency. Operate consistently in compliance with all school, local, State, and Federal laws, rules, policies, and procedures that govern the safe operation of a school bus and student transportation. Secondary Functions of thePosition:
The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position. Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or as directed by the Superintendent/Director of Transportation.Knowledge of:
Policies, procedures and functions of Wa-Nee Community Schools Board of Trustees, Wa-Nee Transportation Department, and the Indiana Department of Education as well as all Federal and State laws, rules, policies, and procedures. Basic operation of vehicle and equipment. Bus route and student stops.Technology:
i.e. cell phone, email, and basic Microsoft products. Area city and county roads and maps.Ability to:
Attend all required training opportunities. Safely, efficiently, and professionally work with the driver and students. Function as a member of a team. Take initiative to lead and empower others. Follow directions and help others follow directions. Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems. Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters. Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff. Establish and maintain a positive, professional, and effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Effectively maintain a positive, professional working relationship with students in regard to behavior. Maintain composure and patience in a high stress environment.Equipment Used:
School bus equipment. Wheelchair, securements, and seating equipment. Safety equipment. Technology devices as assigned. Place Where Work isPerformed:
Transportation office, school buildings, garage/lot, school buses, remote locations, etc.Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, kneel or crouch. Must be able to hear and speak clearly. Must be able to lift items of 100 lbs. or more occasionally and/or during an emergency.
