Assists students in boarding and disembarking from school buses. Monitors student behavior on buses. Completes daily attendance of students riding the bus. Performs on-site visits and monitors compliance in the field. Essential Functions Assists students in boarding and disembarking from all school buses. Lifts students when necessary. Assigns students to seats. Adjusts safety straps and stores crutches and other orthopedic aids on the bus. Properly secures students in several types of equipment. Monitors students on the bus for behavioral and physical problems. Maintains bus schedules of each student on route showing addresses, telephone numbers, pick-ups, etc. Follows prescribed procedures when a parent or an adult fails to meet a student at the bus stop. Assists the bus driver in developing emergency evacuation plans and in performing bus evacuation drills. Assists in emergency situations and efficiently and quickly evacuates students from the bus as needed. Assists the bus driver in receiving information needed to complete accident reports. Reviews Motor Vehicle Administration and background records of bus personnel. Recommends and/or takes actions as appropriate. Communicates with contractors, bus personnel, and school administrators regarding transportation issues. Prepares reports and maintains records of all required Maryland State Department of Education documentation. Conducts investigations, complaint resolution, and training. Provides inbound and outbound call support. Provides general and bus status information. Receives transportation service concerns and routes to appropriate staff for resolution. Reviews and approves school bus drivers and other transportation forms for verification of time, mileage, codes, job numbers, total passengers, and operating objectives. Compiles and prepares documents for data entry and enters data into various computer software applications and transportation systems. Monitors and ensures daily compliance with transportation service performance standards and cost-effectiveness, policy, and operating objectives. Monitors bus loading and unloading of students at one or more school locations and/or additional loading points. Assists with training as needed. Completes other duties as assigned at the discretion of management. Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies and contractual agreements; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards. Maximum Salary 28.48 Minimum Salary 20.21 Desired Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience working with special education students is preferred. Knowledge of school safety, procedural, and policy guidelines and applicable regulations. Skills in communication and human relations. Ability to use and care for school bus and related equipment and supplies according to written and oral instructions. Ability to maintain good relationships with administrators, teachers, students, other employees, and the general public. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other departmental officials, associates, and employees. Must have complex problem-solving skills. Must possess excellent cross-organizational knowledge. Ability to maintain records and write routine reports. Skilled in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft office. Possess a C Driver License. Must attend and pass the Defensive Driving Course within 45 days of employment. Must be able pass the Department of Transportation Physical.
