Salary:
Based on Experience and Burke County Public Schools Temporary Salary Schedule Job Purpose The Temporary School Bus Oil Changer performs routine preventive maintenance services on school buses and vehicles, primarily focusing on oil and filter changes, fluid checks, lubrication, and basic vehicle inspections. This position supports the Transportation Department in maintaining a safe and reliable fleet. The position is temporary and does not include benefits. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience as an automotive mechanic, diesel mechanic, or vehicle maintenance technician preferred. Knowledge of vehicle lubrication systems, oil change procedures, and preventative maintenance practices. Ability to safely operate hand tools, lifts, jacks, and shop equipment. Valid North Carolina driver's license required. Ability to obtain and maintain any required school system clearances. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform routine oil and filter changes on school buses and other district vehicles. Check and maintain engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, power steering fluid, and other vehicle fluids. Lubricate chassis and vehicle components according to manufacturer specifications. Inspect vehicles for leaks, worn parts, and other maintenance concerns. Replace basic maintenance items as directed by the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor. Maintain accurate service and maintenance records. Assist mechanics with routine vehicle maintenance and repair projects. Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe. Follow all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and district policies. Report equipment issues and repair needs to supervisors. Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Fleet Maintenance Supervisor. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of automotive and diesel engine maintenance. Ability to perform preventive maintenance efficiently and accurately. Ability to identify basic mechanical issues requiring further repair. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers. Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and proper handling of oils and lubricants. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and work underneath vehicles. Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to work in varying temperatures and shop conditions. Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and tools. Terms of Employment This is a temporary position with no eligibility for employee benefits. Employment duration, schedule, and hours will be determined by the Transportation Department's needs and available funding.
