  • To assist in providing safe transportation of special needs students to and from designated locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned. The following tasks are typical for positions in this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here:
  • Operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assisting disabled students.
  • Maintains good student conduct on the bus.
  • Secures special equipment that may accompany the student.
  • Is alert to any conditions in the loading and unloading area which present a danger to students.
  • Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents and employees.
  • Knowledge of the order of student stops to assist with pick up and drop off
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises students while being transported on a school bus.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Able to pass standard physical examination (renewed every 24 months) and drug screen.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS and
ABILITIES
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to obtain and maintain current first aid/CPR certification and ability to complete training on providing transportation as a related service to students with disabilities. Ability to physically manage students and equipment. Ability to observe unusual student behavior and advise supervisor. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Attend clinics whenever possible to learn new ideas and to stay informed. Inventory and maintain equipment. Explain what is expected for basketball athletes on and off the court. Work in conjunction with the high school coaches. Make sure every athlete has a physical on file. Turn in all paperwork in a timely manner. Apply discipline in a firm, fair and positive manner. Make sure athletes conduct themselves in a proper manner on and off the the court. Make sure team treats opponents with respect. Keep the Athletic Director informed at all times about the program. Be able to work in cooperation with all the coaching staff; and parents. Must be able to demonstrate the sport or activity, including lifting all equipment as required by the activity. This is to include tournaments and practices. The employee must have the physical stamina to be able to handle the hours and physical stress of the sport during contests and practices.
