About Austin Achieve Public Schools Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing East Austin youth to attend and excel at the nation's top colleges and universities. Role Mission The person who accepts the position as a special needs school bus aide will perform a variety of tasks to help support the driver in providing safe and proper transportation of all students to and from school. Provide administrative support for the Transportation Manager or Lead Drivers as needed. Responsibilities Know the proper use of securing devices for safety restraints and seat belts. Assist the driver in the proper loading and unloading of passengers. Maintain student discipline. Supervise and assist students in transit including as they board and depart the bus Report any concerns regarding students to the driver and to the appropriate building staff. Know the school bus evacuation procedures and be physically capable to evacuate students in an emergency. Learn the bus route and provide route information that includes driver directions for the best way to reach a location, for a substitute or newly assigned bus driver. Occupy a seat that provides the best opportunity for student supervision while the bus is in motion. Learn and adapt to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation and special education offices. Help the driver keep the bus clean. Work irregular hours as needed. Compe tencies Predictable and regular attendance Committed to providing excellent customer service Must be able to understand and take directions and feedback well Able to accept negative and positive feedback Able to self -reflect on own performance to improve the operation Must manage multiple tasks by prioritizing work Needs to adapt to changing circumstances while performing various tasks Handle various tasks simultaneously within established time constraints Be able to work on an open calendar Able to work on evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. Expected to work 30 hours per week - Not including Extra Curricular Activities assigned by campus Able to work extended hours when necessary to meet business needs Maintain emotional control under stress. Qualifications GED or high school diploma Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.
