PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Rides the school bus and helps the driver ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check Knowledge and Skills Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment Ability to work well with children with disabilities Punctual and dependable Must be able to understand instructions and communicate in basic English Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
: (The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.) Assist students on/off the bus as needed Escort children across street to/from curb Assist special needs students individually as needed Secure students in seats, wheelchairs, or other devices used for the safety of the students Work cooperatively with driver in maintaining safe conditions on the bus Maintain good rapport with students, parents and guardians Maintain discipline in-route. Notifies appropriate campus personnel of problem students or unusual happenings Know bus routes well enough to guide a substitute driver Help driver keep bus clean May be required to work with wheelchairs Work irregular hours as needed May be required to lift younger students into or out of car seats Supervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seat seats by students Follow emergency procedures and helps driver administer first aid, if necessary Operate equipment according to established safety procedures Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Physical Demands:
Frequent:
Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling.
Occasional:
Lifting, heavy, 45 pounds or more
Environmental Factors:
Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.) Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
