We were founded in 1977 by Arctic Slope Regional Corporation. The purpose of AEF was to support our shareholders in the pursuit of training and higher education through scholarship funding. Since its inception, the Foundation has expanded into Iñupiaq cultural programming and curriculum. The newly created Cultural Education Program offers traditional education related to language, art, hunting and gathering, and more for the Iñupiat people of North Slope Alaska. Summary This position supervises campers and provides assistance with all camp programming. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Attend an orientation prior to the camp start. If not already certified, complete a First Aid/CPR class to become certified. Assist with campers and activities through the duration of the camp. This includes chaperoning and overnighting with the kids at an identified location (i.e. school, Piuraagvik, etc.) as needed. Activities may include cutting and cooking subsistence foods, camp games, and other planned events. Shares traditional knowledge with campers about the land, weather, hunting, fishing, stories, sewing, art, plants, and more as applicable. Assists with leading and implementing camp activities to teach Inupiaq knowledge, skills, and traditions. Assists with camp setup and breakdown, as well as camp chores including, but not limited to, cooking food, cleaning kitchen and other areas, collecting and hauling firewood, hauling water, and helping children maintain good personal hygiene. Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your group of campers for the duration of the camp. Maintain assigned tent with campers. Assist campers with tent equipment, sleeping arrangements, heat source, and any other related tasks. Accompany campers on travel days. Other related duties may also be assigned. Qualifications Must be able to pass a background check and work with children. Ability to work at a remote setting Ability to work long hours Ability to perform a variety of tasks outdoors in various climates Ability to work with children of all ages Communication and teamwork skills Positive role model CPR training preferred Ability to speak Iñupiaq preferred ASRC is a drug-free workplace and pre-employment drug testing is part of the hiring process.
