Job Description:
We are seeking a Lead Camp Counselor for Hollywood Schoolhouse's Summer Camp program. Days and hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30PM beginning Monday, June 22, 2026 and ending Friday, July 31, 2026. Camp employees will be expected to attend an Orientation and training on Thursday, June 18. The Lead Camp Counselor will work under the direction and supervision of the Camp Director. Primary Responsibilities Actively supervises children Plans, leads and implements activities for camp participants Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement and general well-being Organizes and leads various small and large group activities Maintains accurate camp records Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program Actively encourages the active participation of all students Classroom management, including the modeling and support of prosocial behavior Maintains warm and open communication with families Behavior Management Establish and maintain appropriate levels of authority with students Consistently implement age-appropriate behavioral standards Is observant and proactive Is attentive to student participation, engagement and behavior Encourage age-appropriate autonomy Is cognizant of using direct, affirming and constructive language with students Discipline in a positive, firm, and age-appropriate manner Management of Classroom Space Maintain order with classroom materials and personal items Ensure that toys, games and other materials are treated respectfully and put back properly at the end of the day Tasks and Meetings Participate in daily meetings with camp staff Perform any reasonable task deemed necessary by the Camp Director Assist with maintaining materials and supplies Communication Is direct, accessible and reliable when communicating with campers, families, and other colleagues Is warm and professional with families Seek clarity to resolve conflicts Maintain appropriate confidentiality Report suspected child abuse/neglect to the Camp Director according to Mandated Reporting Guidelines Check email daily to stay up-to-date on important communications School Policies Be familiar with school policies in the Employee Handbook, including but not limited to: Adherence to expected hours Timely reporting of absence - ideally the night before or as early as possible on the day of absence Notify supervisor of any lateness or absence in a timely fashion Immediately notifying supervisor of any changes in contact information
Requirements:
Qualifications and Characteristics Sought Must be at least 18 years of age Experience working with children in a camp, youth program, recreation, or in a related field. An Associate's degree or higher is preferred CPR/First Aid certification required Ability to commit to the full six weeks of camp Physical Requirements of the Job Must be able to physically navigate comfortably in a passenger bus and at trip venues Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 20lbs in the event of an emergency Must be able to be outdoors in hot weather and in spaces which are subject to variable temperatures and humidity
