Want to spend your summer outside with kids, riding bikes and exploring the Bay Area? Wheel Kids Bicycle Club is hiring for summer bike camp counselors! Wheel Kids is the Bay Area's premier exploration and adventure destination for kids! We are hiring for the following regions and locations:
Peninsula:
Palo Alto Wheel Kids coaches work with 1-2 additional coaches and are responsible for daily activities, management, direction and safe functioning of a group of up to 12 children. An excellent candidate for a Wheel Kids coaching position is excited about planning group rides and activities, wants to foster a love of bicycling and exploration among children, and is open to receiving feedback to improve. Coaches are required to be available to work for at least 6 weeks of our summer season.Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities listed below are typical but not exhaustive. It is expected that all Wheel Kids staff perform whatever tasks are needed to ensure safety and a positive experience for our participants. A Wheel Kids Coach's primary responsibilities include: Managing a group of up to 12 children ranging in age from 5 to 15, with the assistance of 1-3 other coaches. Teaching children the "rules of the road," selecting group ride routes and facilitating games and activities throughout each camp day. Applying Wheel Kids safety procedures during programs, and the ability to calmly render first aid when necessary. Coordinating activities with other Coaches, Directors, and the General Manager. Working with other Coaches and Directors to appropriately subdivide children into groups. Providing excellent customer service and ensuring that families are comfortable leaving their child in Wheel Kids' care. Additional responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: Directing and/or escorting children and parents/guardians to the clubhouse facility or other staging area for Wheel Kids' programs. Handling/moving bicycles on stairs, elevators, buses, trucks, etc. Managing the sign-in and sign-out process, ensuring that staff members monitoring sign-in/sign-out adhere to Wheel Kids policies. Leading bicycle skills learning activities, including obstacle courses, maintenance workshops, vendor/visitor-sponsored events, etc. Supervising and monitoring children during daily activities, including group rides, general activities and play time, field trips and special events. Monitoring and enforcing discipline and behavior. Displaying a positive attitude, leadership skills, compassion, respect, and patience, and being a role model for these attributes. Helping resolve children's situations: behavioral, medical, and emotional. Ensuring that areas used by Wheel Kids are left in excellent condition ("leave no trace"). Establishing an environment that fosters good morale and an enjoyable camp experience for children, families, and staff. Adhering to and fostering Wheel Kids values of equity and inclusion in camp activities.
