POSITION SUMMARY
: To ensure the overall safety, security, and well-being of elderly clients of the Adult Day Service Center (ADSC). The Activity Aide will lead activities that engage and stimulate older adults afflicted with memory loss. This role will also assist clients with activities of daily living, including assistance with eating, showering, toileting, and basic custodial care. We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and high-integrity Caregiver/Activity Leader to work directly with older adults in our Adult Day Service Center in Santa Monica. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with client's safe arrival and departure to the ADSC including signing them in and out on daily roster. Prepares, implements and leads program activities as assigned daily. Escorts and assists clients with personal custodial needs including toileting, and showering as needed. Assists with meal and snack preparation and service; provides clients with needed assistance; monitors for general appetite and safety and provides clients with adequate fluids to maintain hydration. Monitors, reports and documents clients' meal intake, restroom schedule, changes in health, behavior, and hygiene and program participation. Reports to Supervisor any change in client's health or behavior based on observations and activity project selections. Communicates with family members as appropriate. Uses agency property and supplies in a responsible manner. Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility. Ability to position oneself to safely maneuver wheelchair-bound clients (on upward and downward slopes), and/or those using assistive walking devices, involving pushing and controlling the device Ability to transfer wheelchair-bound clients into and out of their chairs and into and out of vehicles, requiring lifting up to 35 pounds unassisted•QUALIFICATIONS A
minimum of one year experience working with older adults, adults with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, disabled or other at-risk populations Certified Nurse's Assistant Certificate (CNA) strongly preferred Basic understanding of problems associated with impaired older adults including memory loss and dealing with difficult behaviors preferred Ability to communicate clearly and anticipate the needs of clients Ability to motivate clients to participate in the activities of daily living Ability to independently plan, prepare and carry out assignments Team player Leadership skills to independently implement therapeutic activity program Must be at least 18 years of age High School Diploma or GED Some college preferred Must be able to maneuver up to least 30 poundsREQUIREMENTS
This position requires lifting, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, and moving tables and chairs Must obtain upon hire and maintain a CPR and First Aid card (paid for by the company) Must complete Health Screening Report upon hire (includes proof of TB clearance) Fingerprints must be submitted upon hire and pass a criminal clearances background checkBenefits & Compensation:
