Job Description
The Part-Time Manager on Duty (MOD) is responsible for overseeing daily front-line operations of the recreation center during assigned shifts at the Apex Center. This role ensures exceptional guest service, smooth facility operations, staff supervision, and a safe, welcoming environment for all guests. The MOD serves as the primary point of contact in the absence of senior management. Open and/or close the recreation facility according to established procedures Monitor daily operations to ensure efficiency, cleanliness, and safety standards Conduct facility walk-throughs to identify and resolve maintenance, safety, or service issues Enforce facility policies, procedures, and codes of conduct Respond to emergencies, incidents, and guest concerns promptly and professionally Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure a positive guest experience Resolve guest complaints or conflicts in a calm and solution-oriented manner Provide accurate information about programs, memberships, and services Support front desk operations, including check-ins, reservations, and cash handling when needed Supervise and support front-line staff (e.g., front desk associates, attendants, lifeguards if applicable) Ensure proper staff coverage and reassign duties as needed Assist with training new employees on procedures and customer service standards Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and emergency procedures Complete incident and accident reports as required Ensure compliance with local, state, and organizational regulations Complete daily reports, logs, and documentation Assist with scheduling, attendance tracking, and shift communications Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or equivalent. Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to handle difficult situations and make sound decisions independently Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays CPR/First Aid/AED certification required or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous customer service, front desk, cash handling, or recreation facility experience is preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Physical Activities Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or sit on the floor as needed during activities or tasks. Ability to reach, grasp, and handle small objects, tools, or equipment with precision. Ability to climb, crawl, or maneuver in tight spaces to complete maintenance or activity-related tasks. Requires adequate hearing to recognize and respond to sounds, signals, or distress in a variety of environments. Duties may require sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, or stooping for extended periods of time. Ability to monitor participants, ensure safety, and respond to signals or emergencies. Ability to react quickly and appropriately to the physical needs or emergencies of children or participants. Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking loudly, when necessary, in noisy or outdoor environments. Ability to work most of the day on your feet, performing both active supervision and hands-on tasks. Work Environment Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, cold, snow, and humidity. Noise levels range from moderate to loud, often due to active children, group interactions, or busy transportation settings The position may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, chemically treated water, or other environmental irritants. Work may occur in environments with poor acoustics, distractions, or high activity levels. Some tasks will be performed in wet, humid, or damp environments, such as pools or aquatic facilities.
