Job Description

Position Overview Lead Counselors are experienced, reliable camp staff who help anchor daily camp operations. This role bridges frontline counseling and leadership, supporting camper safety, staff development, and smooth program flow. Lead Counselors mentor Junior Counselors and Counselors while modeling professionalism, consistency, and strong group management. This position is ideal for returning counselors ready to grow into leadership while remaining camper-facing. Our CampGrippen counselor's role is to maximize the camper's experience every day, making their summer vacation a special, fun, and memorable time!
Job Duties:
(A) "The World Stops" : Make positive customer engagement your #1 goal daily (B) Lead Counselor Key Responsibilities Mentor and support Junior Counselors and Counselors Lead camp groups, transitions, and activities with confidence Ensure camper safety, engagement, and behavior standards Support daily structure, flow, and consistency across camp Assist with staff communication and problem-solving Model professionalism, reliability, and positive leadership (C) Supervising Campers throughout the day: Lead groups of 6 to 8 kids through a specified camp curriculum under the supervision of the Camp Director. Create a fun and active environment for every camper so that they are excited to come back the next day! Provide incident response to accidents and injuries as required. Encourage campers to try their best! Give Lots of High Fives! Make the kids your priority and focus. Make the entirety of each and every camper's day at CampGrippen awesome! Prepare for camp with setting up. Cleaning up and breaking down camp equipment. Facility housekeeping.
Job requirements:
Minimum 1 prior summer as a Camp Counselor (Exception may be made for exceptional CITs) Demonstrated mastery of core counselor responsibilities Prefer applicants with extensive ÜG Climbing background (e.g. 2+ years participation in ÜG clubs and or teams) that have demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. Applicants must have weekday (8am to 5pm) during the summer and must be available to work a MINIMUM of 5 full 40-hour work weeks through the summer (6 preferred) AND 6 days of school-year camps (Fall/Winter/Spring).
For non-veteran counselors:
at least 8 school-year camp days worked in the prior year (waived for counselors with 2+ prior summers) Applicants must be available for our CampGrippen training days. Mandatory training days are on a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in mid-May. Dates will be announced upon job offer. Previous climbing experience (1+ years preferred) and ability to pass a top rope belay certification. Ability to climb at a 5.9 or higher level. Ability to stand for duration of shifts (8 hours). Ability to wear a climbing harness and perform top rope belay for others for 2 hours without a break. Ability to walk up and down stairs and over soft/uneven surfaces (e.g. soft padded bouldering flooring) while providing assistance to others. Ability to clearly communicate with campers and their parents in person and over the phone. Ability to lead groups (8 or more people) including providing clear verbal instructions, group management, and conflict resolution. Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 lbs without assistance from others. CPR/First Aid Certification (American Red Cross (re)certifications are offered semi-annually). Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification (certification courses are offered semi-annually). Must pass a criminal background check (applicable to employees 18+).
Lead Counselors Compensation & Benefits End-of-Summer Bonus:
$50 per week worked as a Lead Counselor (contingent on attendance and performance expectations)
School-Year Camp Bonus:

REQUIREMENTS
Previous climbing experience (1+ years preferred) and ability to pass a top rope belay certification. Ability to climb at a 5.9 or higher level. Demonstrated knowledge of climbing movement and ability to lead classes teaching those skills Ability to stand for the duration of shifts (8 hours minimum). Ability to wear a climbing harness and perform top rope belay for others for 2 hours without a break. Applicants must have 6 or more weeks of availability M-F 8a to 5p during the summer season. Ability to walk up and down stairs and over soft/uneven surfaces (e.g. soft padded bouldering flooring) while providing assistance to others. Ability to clearly communicate with customers in person, on the phone, and via electronic messaging (e.g. e-mail). Ability to lead groups (8 or more people) including providing clear verbal instructions, group management, a conflict resolution. Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 lbs without assistance from others. Ability to work at a computer using standard computer interfaces (keyboard, mouse). CPR/First Aid Certification (American Red Cross certifications are offered semi-annually) Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification (certification courses are offered semi-annually) Must pass a criminal background check. Minimum 18 years old or 16 years old with 480 hours of previous work experience at Ubergrippen as a Junior Counselor/Team Member/Youth Program Instructor. Übergrippen Indoor Climbing Crag is a community focused indoor rock climbing business with faclities located in NE Denver in the Central Park neighborhood and Castle Rock in the Meadows neighborhood.
