Job Description

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Education / Experience Therapeutic Recreation Director certified in the State of Connecticut in accordance with the Public Health Code required. Associate degree or bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment. Ability to read, write and understand English; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills. Fluent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and other office equipment. Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
In collaboration with Department Head, trains department staff, (new and current) to maintain skill levels and compliance with evolving mandates. 2. Lead or 'go to' person for department staff on process, supply, and team related needs, including tactfully diffusing difficult situations. 3. Role model for department by way of promoting compliance of facility policies and procedures. 4. Reports irresolvable concerns to department head/supervisor and is involved with disciplinary processes. 5. Assists with the planning, organization, and implementation of specialized group activities designed to motivate, stimulate, and improve the quality of life for facility residents. 6. Encourage and stimulate creative talents, physical capabilities, and cognitive skills of each resident to his/her highest potential. 7. Support the one-to-one individualized activities and sensory stimulation for those residents who do not actively participate in group activities. 8. Transports residents to area where programs are being conducted. 9. Supports resident supervision on the nursing unit(s), including outdoor activities. 10. Communicates with residents' progress and/or concerns resulting from activity related participation. 12. Assist with supply inventory, planning and purchasing for department/facility activities.
