POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Membership Director or Senor Program Director, the Activity Associate - Kid Zone will assist with the care and supervision of children and with maintenance of toys and equipment; while parent/guardian are using the YMCA s facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
In conjunction with other staff members, carry out daily activities required to care for children including, but not limited to, serving snacks and lunch, bottle feedings, comforting injured or upset children, etc. Participate with children in play activities, ensuring premier quality and innovation. Constantly monitor children s activities and behavior. Be responsible for clean-up and maintenance of toys and materials. Immediately communicate any problems or concerns with program, staff, children or parents to the appropriate staff member. Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and members. Report to supervisor immediately any evidence of child abuse including physical, mental, emotional and/or neglect. Maintain confidentiality of information provided by parents, staff and administration. Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding members expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with parents, children, host agencies, and staff. Perform other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with children and an understanding of child development. Ability to build relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents/guardians. Ability to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for learning and relationship-building. CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire. At least 16 years of age.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 30 pounds in weight. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
