Sports and Recreation Coordinator Reports to:
Program & Camp Director Position Overview:
The Sports and Recreation Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing engaging, inclusive, and mission-aligned sports and recreation programs for all ages at the JCC of Greater New Haven. This role includes oversight of the gymnasium, racquetball and pickleball courts, and related storage areas, as well as collaboration with professional instructors to provide high-quality instruction in sports such as basketball and pickleball. The director also plays a key role in year-round summer camp planning, camp leadership building operations, and special event support.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement sports and recreational programming for youth, teens, adults, and seniors. Schedule and supervise professional instructors for high-level lessons and clinics (e.g., pickleball, basketball). Ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety of the gym, storage rooms, and court spaces. Serve as Manager on Duty several evenings per week (9:00pm closing time), ensuring building security and positive member experiences. Participate in Vacation Camp programming as needed. Hold a leadership role in the summer camp and assist with year-round camp planning. Develop and manage the annual budget for sports and recreation, meeting benchmarks and fiscal goals. Design creative programming to engage the community and support revenue growth. Support and assist in planning large community events. Collaborate with external organizations to create adaptive sports opportunities for individuals with diverse needs. Collaborate with external organizations to create successful partnerships which increase revenue and community members served. Maintain strong communication with staff, members, families, and partners. Take part in the successful planning of annual community events including but not limited to the Bagel Run 5k, Craft Fair, Touch a Truck etc.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in recreation, sports management, physical education, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years in planning sports management experience Knowledge of adaptive sports and inclusion best practices. Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
