Job Description
This is organizing and leadership work in conducting recreational activities. Employees of this class are responsible for preparing, organizing, and supervising recreational activities. Responsibilities also include seeing to the proper operation and maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and physical facilities in the assigned areas. Some preliminary training and general instructions are received from professional and administrative superiors regarding the program to be administered, but employees are required to adjust their program in accordance with the facilities available and age groups attending. Work is reviewed through field visits, staff conferences, and the analysis of activity reports. This posting will close after the receipt of the first 20 qualified applicants or 1 week, whichever comes first. Creates, organizes, and supervises various programs and recreational activities, including team and individual games, athletic contests, and sporting events; assists with and conducts tournaments; supervises free play. Registers patrons, collects and tallies fees for various classes, and checks in supplies and equipment. Enforces rules and regulations; maintains safeguards against accidents and instructs children in the safe use of equipment. Monitors the game room, weight rooms, and gym. Reports hazardous conditions and accidents and administers first aid when needed. Instructs individuals and groups in recreational activities; maintains discipline in recreational areas. Handles related paperwork, including attendance records and requisitioning supplies. Participates in staff meetings; assists in planning special events; provides information about programs to parents and other citizens. May handle after-school pick up for Simpson Park and Coleman Bush. May be required to participate in and/or facilitate training to support departmental or City initiatives and requirements. May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department. Position is designated as Mission Critical.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Assists with all gaming activities (e.g., eSports, S.T.E.M.) at Coleman-Bush and Simpson Park Community Center. My assist with custodial related duties. High school diploma from an accredited school or aGED. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a valid telephone number. Must maintain First Aid and CPR certification within one year of employment.KNOWLEDGE
Methods and techniques of playground and community center planning, the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, child psychology and sociology, and personal health and hygiene. First aid methods and necessary safety precautions used in recreation work. Rules and regulations governing various competitive athletic games, such as softball, basketball, and volleyball. Arts and crafts, dramatics, and music. Esports and competitive gaming. (Coleman Bush & Simpson Park)SKILLS:
Computer software, programming, and maintenance skills.ABILITIES
Lead various recreational activities suitable for children and adults. Adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by supervisors. Supervise subordinates in recreational work, discipline, and solve disciplinary problems. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees, and the general public. Perform work requiring good health and physical stamina. Apply customer service skills and troubleshooting.WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary work with some walking or standing, exerting up to 50 pounds of force regularly, and routine keyboard operations. Exposure to significant environmental hazards, blood-borne pathogens, high temperatures outside activities, and bright/dim light. Normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
