Job Description

JOB Salary Starting at $16.00 per hour. Returning Camp Counselors or candidates with prior camp counselor or related youth program experience may be eligible for an additional $0.25 per hour for each year of relevant experience, up to a maximum of $18.00 per hour.

Training dates are Tuesday - Saturday, May 26th - May 30th.

This position is responsible for supervising, conducting, and participating in activities such as arts and crafts, athletics, field trips, and special events for children of various ages in a recreational day camp setting. This is a great experience in the field of events and recreation. You will help in coordination of special camp days, field trips, craft projects and guest speakers. All Camp Mackle summer staff will work under the supervision of the Full-Time Recreation personnel, who will assist them with guiding campers through a daily, pre-established schedule of fun and enriching activities, while ensuring that all campers have a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment in which to spend their days. Camp Mackle summer staff will collaborate in the planning of activities and special events during the 10 themed weeks of camp. Attendance at the summer staff orientation and training, held prior to the start of camp, and all weekly meetings are required of camp personnel.

Assist in set-up and preparation for camp activities Organize and care for program supplies and equipment Assist, co-lead, or lead high-quality, hands-on activities in a safe manner Enforce camp safety regulations Chaperone campers on field trips Demonstrate respect for one's self, others, and property Serve as strong role models for youth in character and in action Encourage respect for one's self and others Encourage respect for camp property, equipment, and facilities Be responsible for daily clean-up of camp activities and other duties as assigned Maintain frequent communication throughout the day with fellow counselors, LIT's, and specified Year-Round Parks and Recreation personnel Maintain good public relations with parents and guardians of campers Prepare and submit weekly evaluations in a timely manner as required Mandatory attendance at all Camp Mackle orientation and training dates, and weekly staff meetings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of the current trends, methods, and techniques used in the provision of programs for seniors, adults, youth, and/or teens Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures Basic knowledge of principles and processes for providing outstanding customer service Skill in working independently and following through with assignments with minimal supervision Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office products (Word and Outlook) and ability to learn department and organization specific software Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to organize work for timely completion Ability to perform basic cashier duties accurately Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule
OTHER REQUIREMENTSPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes).
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE
STATEMENTEvery City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will be considered an essential employee during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
